We have worked closely with our local mental health commissioner and have received commissioning approval for our recommendations in the following areas.
- The adoption of a user defined and recovery oriented approach to mental health support.
- The revision of the Care Programme Approach (CPA) to include a more appropriate degree of personalization and increased levels of service user influence on strategic planning.
- The incorporation of direct payments and individualised mental health budgets.
- The development of more self-help and user managed services, including a new ‘user-run’ day centre.
- We have recommended that a purpose built community day centre, (hopefully also with a 24 crisis service nearby), be available by 2011.
We also recognize the need for further work in the following areas:
- Gender related recovery services
- Recovery services to the BME community
- Development of further user/survivor involvement in commissioning, contract reviews and local needs assessments
